no. the other GT games have a attach ratio to there console of like 10%. if GT5 sells 20 million copies it would have like a 29% attach ratio to the ps3(if sony sells 75 million console wich is on the high side). i suspect around 8 million copies for GT5.

If you understand the big picture, attach ratio might be interseting but not really usefull.  When you don't understand things, its totally useless.

GT3 sold what it did before PS2 hit 80 million.

So by your logic GT5 is set to do GT3 like numbers.

By the way Prologue is near 5 million, try to wrap that around your mind.  A 40$ demo that has maybe 5% of the content of the final game does that.  Think just how freaking strong that franchise is if it can pull that of.

Not only that, but GT5P managed to sell more than the competition's full game (Forza 3), which is on a system with a higher install base.

If that's not an indication that the franchise is still mighty strong, I don't know what is.

GT5P sold so well, because people were sick of waiting for GT5.

Look it up, there has never been another GT Prologue game that was released so much earlier than the full game.

Also you're comparing a game that has been out for over 2 years to another one that has been out for about 8 months...

GT series is still strong, but GT5 Prologue isn't an indication for anything.

Well, if you want it that way, you could always look at each games corresponding sales.  The latest week posted for Forza 3 is Week 35 with 2.77 mil units sold.  Week 35, GT5P had 2.32 mil.  That's a 450K difference.  Now, keep in mind that not only was GT5P only a glorified demo and Forza a full-fledged game, but 360 had a much larger install base 8 months ago compared to PS3's 2 years ago.  Also, it's pretty obvious that Forza will have nowhere near the legs GT5P had in Japan and EU.

Of course, you could always compare it to Forza 2, which launched over 6 months earlier than GTP5P (almost a year earlier in the US).  Again, to a larger intsall base.  Still it only sold 230K more than a glorified demo.  And this doesn't include downloads of GT5P, because if it did Forza 2 would have sold less than it.

You are right about the previous Prologues not launching this much earlier than the main game.  But, consumers didn't know that would be the case when GT5P released.  Once again, we can look at the corresponding sales of the last Prologue (GT4P) and GT5P.  Now, GT4P was released a year before GT4 released, so let's just look at the sales til then.  VGC only has the Japanese numbers, but by going by these it looks like GT4P sold most copies, if not all, by Week 32.  I would imagine that is the case for all regions.  It also didn't release in America, so I'll just add the American sales of GT5P up to Week 32 (532K) to the total shipped copies of GT4P (1.36 mil).  This gives us ~ 1.89 mil GT4P possibly could of sold (on a MUCH larger install base) if released in America.  By Week 32, GT5P had already sold ~ 2.21 mil.  I think GT5P is a good indication that the GT series is very much alive.
