It does. You can put any 2,5" HDD in. It can be bigger, faster (standard PS3 HDD 5400) or both. You won't lose your warrenty. Be awere 40 gb sku cell is smaller (65 nm), it consumes less energy (120 W/h instead 200 W/h) and cooling system generates less noise. 60/80 gb sku looks a bit nicer because of silver finish.
40 gb is a lot of space. Go with this model if you don't care about PS2 compatibility.
