Personally, I've only bought five consoles, if you don't count handhelds. I'll list in the order in which I bought them.
GCN - purchased in mid '02. Didn't have cash to buy one until then. Had other, higher priorities for a while.
N64 - purchased mine in mid-'06. Was planning on getting married and moving out, and I wanted to take the N64 games we had that belonged to me, but my family owned the N64. So I purchased a second one. Family purchased their original during launch window.
PS1 - purchased for $3 from the neighbor in early '06. Never was a fan of the Playstation brand, but for $3, it's tough to beat.
Wii - purchased at launch in Nov. '07. I've always wanted to purchase at launch, but never had the money. This time, I was 21 and had the cash. Bring it.
PS2 - purchased in spring '07 for $40 from a friend. Again, never that big a fan of the PS brand, but there were a few games I wanted and it needed to happen. Except, it looks like those games may be ported to the Wii (one of them for sure is), so I'm getting around to selling the PS2 on eBay.
