This is just more of that friendly PR designed to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside armed with the knowledge 'propaganda' that if you purchase the system today that it won't become obsolete within the next couple of years. With no guarantee or legal implications this is as good as a politician's promise at election time.
But in all fairness I don't believe that Sony or MS will want to kick-start the next generation anytime soon, as they've spent a fortune this gen. and would like some more Live and Premium subscription fees to get back in the black.
