If i've got my world cup knowledge right, the next tiebreaker past goal differential is goals scored.... of which the USA has more.
Techinically the USA is in 2nd at the moment.
England would need a superior result to get by the US. Either by beating Slovenia by 2 more goals then the US beats Algeria, or by the US tieing or losing with an English win or tie... or by a double tie, with the english tie being like... 3-3 vs 0-0.
Really, people are talking about the US getting screwed being good for England... however in reality England got screwed too.
I mean if the US didn't get that goal stolen... Slovenia is sitting up there with 4 points... vs Englands two.
A simple win puts them in. Now however they need some help from Algeria to get in.

It's in England's own hands in regards to if we win we are guarenteed to progress. Depending on USA result vs Algeria on if we come first or second. Bascially if both games are drawn, like you said USA (as it stands) would progress.
All 3 nations will fancy progression but I think that Slovenia are easier to break down in comparison to Algeria, I fear they may play 11 men behind the ball and hope for a draw though

Oh right... duh. If Slovenia That's be 5 points to Slovenia's 4. Brainfart on my part there.
In that case... well yeah. I'd gurantee they'll play for a draw... still, you SHOULD be able to break through.
They were playing defenisve vs the US after they got up big too... and we broke through what should of been 3 goals.
