effect/affect is my big one, but less/fewer is also annoying.

For the latter:

If the noun it is quantifying has many discrete objects that can be counted (e.g. cups, consoles, days) then use fewer

"Fewer consoles were sold..."

Whereas if the noun is collective and can't be counted (e.g. money, time, disk space)

"Less time was needed..."

I am a B grade (hopefully) at English langauge and these are the points I find the hardest.

Really?

*Thinks quickly*

So you spotted the intentional mistake to keep you on your toes?
