He was maybe a little bit indelicate, but the comparison is fitting, health issues will increase mortality in the Gulf, millions families there will have economic problems too, the environment received a deadly blow.
Immediate casualties make 9/11 a horrible day with very few comparable to it, but both short and long term effects will make the oil disaster a horrible event too. And in both cases innocents were, are and will be hit, just another analogy that should push the victims of both towards solidarity. Obama had good intentions in doing that comparison, nobody should try anything to put the victims of the two events against each other. Sowing discord just to hit Obama is nothing else than petty.
