I'm sure your whole family will enjoy sitting still behind your 3DS watching UP in 3D on a 3.5 Inch screen. Sony's 3D is different to Nintendo's 3D. The 3DS is an individual experience, TV 3D is a home theatre feature. Two different market's, one aimed at people like you and one aimed at people who want the top of the range 3D setup at home to watch Avatar and play GT5 in 3D.

Nintendo will solve that problem next year with Nintendo 3DS XL! <3 <3
And it'll still be cheaper than a family set of 3D glasses, lol.
