I hate to say it but Kinect is looking like it will meet my expectations for it.  Those expectations are for failure.  Without a button or clicker of some sort, the games will be limited and ultimately niche.  The pricing needs to be low because they consumers just aren't going to get comprehensive value out of the device.  There will be too many game types it isn't suited for.  I think Sony made the right choice here with including that controller (although I think Move will have it's own problems with selling expensive peripherals and games on top of a more expensive game console).  Of all the options though, Microsoft should have included some sort of direct response device to go with their motion controls.  The inability to work with sitting players is going to suck also.  I'm glad companies are trying some thing new, I just see too many problems with this.

I give this thread a 9.5.

Ironically the three most successful games of the generation, Wii Sports tennis -> No buttons needed, Wii Fit -> No buttons and Mario Kart -> one button? aren't niche at all.

Anyway its obvious why. Kinect games are all at least 50% better than Move games which is why they cost more. Everyone knows when you pay more you get better products, just ask anyone with a PS3.

I responded to most of this in another thread but I'll give insert a quick highlight from it here.

Wii Sports - a great tech demo for the system, but not only did it come with the system so success is hard to gauge for it, but the Wii couldn't have survived on just these kind of games.

Wii Fit - sold on a system that already had great casual market penetration.  Wouldn't have sold half as well on the 360 or PS3.

Mario Kart has a button for breaking and another for looking back.  How are you going to look back in Kinect?

Not every game needs buttons, but having none at all limits what kind of games Kinect can offer.  Anyway, I went into more detail in the other thread.

I give that post a 9.3.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.
