I'm pretty sure those price cuts on existing stock are for real with redesigned units being shipped today.
Of course it also means that the existing designs have been cut from production making this an inventory clearing sale more than anything else.
If MS sells a Kinect/Arcade bundle for under $300, they're leveraged in a pretty decent position to move quite a few consoles.
