The more I think about it the more not having a subtitle makes sense from Nintendo's perspective. If these rumours are true, we're going to see Nintendo moving away not just from the Ocarina formula for 3D Zelda titles, but the formula that has been in every Zelda game since the beginning of the series-go to dungeon, obtain item, use item to beat boss, return to overworld, repeat. Nintendo have also stated in previous years they wish to broaden the reach of Zelda, and have attempted to broaden the reach of their biggest franchises on Wii and DS.

I think they could be using the simple title of "The Legend Of Zelda" with no subtitle firstly because it will represent a true rebirth of the series game mechanics, but also because Nintendo believe subtitled Zeldas drive away new customers. Think about it. Zelda is a long running series, and each game (since the original) has had a subtitle. For the mass market audience Nintendo has captured (quite a few of whom are new to gaming) Zelda: Spirit Tracks sounds like a sequel. Therefore, new customers may be put off new Zelda titles because they believe they have missed out on previous entries. Nintendo could see subtitles as a psychological entry barrier to new Zelda players. This doesn't mean this Zelda game is being made for the new customers, but rather it is being made more accessible for them. This makes me hope that the two difficulty settings are accurate-a normal mode with some form of super guide and a hero mode with tougher enemies (and no super guide) would make the game accessible without diluting the experience for Zelda veterans.

I'm doubtful about some parts of this rumour-particularly the story elements included in the rumour list. The name of the Master Sword girl seems a bit of a mouthful, but it does seem possible the name has been lost or mangled in translation. This is the English translation of a German translation of some Japanese notes, let's not forget that. I'm also unconvinced about the time frame. But factor in (as others have) time travel, and I find it easier to believe we're going to see Zelda reborn with a tale about the origins of the Master Sword. I don't think Nintendo would reboot the Legend of Zelda without Zelda and Ganon being involved-which the 500 years before Ocarina time frame suggests. Also, the Master Sword has been an important element in the battle against Ganon since Link to the Past.

Thankfully there's not much time left for speculation. We'll know tomorrow evening what Nintendo has in store for us, and I am very excited!
