they forced people to wear white pochos to avoid mistakes... and many of media believe it wasn't really "live".

The ponchos were for a silly light show at the end.  They had nothing to do with the Kinect demo.  The ponchos didn't even cover people's arms.  In fact, I don't think people were actually able to demo Kinect at the event.  It was only shown in video form.
