but the web cam is a high end device sold with a large manufacturers markup designed to make a profit off of a relatively small number of sales. Natal is something people expected Microsoft to sell at a loss to get it into peoples homes. Sure the price is legitimate for the device and very possible but if MS want to sell a lot of them and market it is the next generation of gaming to coincide with the slim as a relaunch of the 360 people expected it to be cheaper. A lot of people will be turned off by this rumoured price. 

the fact that a lot of analysts like Pachter were saying $50-150 and may cost around $75-100 to manufacture means that this price seems high to a lot of people.

while I agree with what your stating, i am just stating that the cost is reasonable and is not over priced..people may expect that but I do not think it's fair to the companies. people may feel screw the companies :P, but without them there would be none of this, I do not want companies to price thing's too high also but when it's resonable in it's price I feel no problem paying for it at that price. as long as it's reasonable.

I mean it sounds perfectly reasonable when you compare it to the 360 HDD and other peripherals but I think a lot of people are shocked that it isn't being sold at a loss or at most cost so as to get it into as many homes as possible. This price if true could be seen as Microsoft backing down from staking the whole future of the 360 on Natal as it seemed they were doing. Unless they have some amazing games coming I don't see Natal doing very well at this rumoured price point and that will mean developers will be reluctant to develop for it. 

I mean the black Wii with sports resort (2 games) is only US$199.99 and Natal is $189 console for new owners with I would hope at least 1 full game (even if it's a wii sports like minigame collection) it doesn't look like a good deal even if the tech is better and some people will think it is a great deal, I don't think you average Wii owner (I think we can all agree the main market) is gonna see this as a good deal. And I don't think the shooter-core are going to go for it, especially not at that price.  

So then there is the question who is the market for this? who would be willing to pay several hundred $$$ (if they are new owners) to play one or two games (one of which is probably a cart racer a 3D breakout game and a digital canvas one or two other mini games) especially if they already own a Wii and some games and a couple of controllers or a PS3 owner who could pick up a PS eye and some move controllers for less than the price of just Natal?

P.S. I don't think being able to navigate the dashboard etc is a big enough selling point ether BTW.

like i said i get where you are coming from, I also with that Price if true than maybe Microsoft will take a lesser "here an now" way of getting out the door as fast as they can bundle it with new xbox360's to gather new XBOX360 buyer's. while the existing XBOX360 user's may wait but , Microsoft is in a good position to continue moving forward with xbox360 support for a few year's more with quite a good chance they do not have to bring out a new XBOX360 replacement.

the new xbox360 repacement may not get released before 2013 because of this.

thats a good thing for sony too so they wont be forced to release a PS4  anytime soon :)

if you think about it what would the new system's that Microsoft and Sony release what would the function's of the new replacement's have over the PS3 and the xbox360?

more powerful hardware, and better upperlimit graphic's limit's

other than that every function that the new machine's will have so would the PS3 and the xbox360, they would not be upto the speed of the replacement system's will have.  Durring the first year or two there is not going to be a real big graphical leap in the game's over the system's we have now because the PS3 and the xbox360 will still be selling, and developer's still want that money. esp. 3rd party.

they have enough robust hardware that developer's can still make good money in software sales to keep developer's putting game's on the older system to be released also.

not being as static as older game console's will keep the ps3 and the xbox360 viable platform because of them both being less static.
