It was one of the best fighting series in the 16 bits era, which suddenly died out once it went 3D with MK4 on the N64. Each new iteration since has been slipping further away from the original feeling of the series.

Thankfully, taking in consideration of the trailer, it looks like it's going to it's roots.

To make a better comparison point, imagine that Elder Scrolls suddenly starts slipping away from it's base and becomes a downgraded version, with no Open World, no Quests, limited actions and items, and with a 5 minute main history, this goes on for more than 10 years, you start losing hope in the series, and then, after all that time, they release an Elder Scrolls that's like Oblivion&Morrowind&Daggerfall put together and overhauled xD.

You're silly, but I love your Elder Scrolls analogy.  

I think NiKkom is a bit closer to the truth though, nostalgia plays a huge part here.

I used to like fighting games too, but that was when I was a child playing in the Arcades. Some genres don't age too well (or you grow out of them I dunno).

Yup, nostalgia does play a huge part, but I've also been a fighting game fan. Always has and always been. And there are some that have aged well, especially because their technicality has also evolved, like the Virtua Fighter series.

I just hope that at least this new MK has a bit of the spirit of the original ones, that would be nice
