I fail to see how we can't live by only definitions, that's kinda the POINT of language, isn't it? To give things definitions?

Oh, no no no.

Connotation is the implied meaning, which is what you do everyday.

Definition is the prim and proper meaning.

For example, connotations give differing degrees to similar words.

With only definitions, tiny and small would be the same word.

However, the connotations of the words say that something tiny is smaller than something small.

Understand?

What if I believed that small was smaller than tiny? Just because it means one thing to you, it could mean a completely different thing to me. This is why I go by definitions, especially when discussing something as technical as this.

Listen, it's clear that we have different ideas of what classifies an RPG. Since you're using connotations, JRPGs are RPGs. Since I'm using definitions, they are not. Since we're not going to convince each other, let's just drop it. All we've done is restate the same points over and over again anyway.

Still, it is my belief that JRPGs should never have been called such in the first place, in which case the connotation would not exist.
