Wait and they left the kids' room door open too ? surely, the fox didn't open the bedroom door by itself ?

It is bad parenting yes. Any maniac could have entered the house through the open door and seen the kid sleeping in their bed room (with, presumably an open door too) and abducted them while the parents were farting their asses off in their sleep.
