Beanie Babies have lasted 14 years and counting, and it seems their "fadness" was for 4 or 5 years in the middle. Wikipedia's list of fads includes things like drive-in movie theaters, which lasted over a decade.
So if we're going by that definition, sure, call the Wii a fad, but it can still last over a decade and become the best-selling console of all time. So the word is basically meaningless.
