The original Dungeon Siege is one of the most mindless games I have ever played.

Is that a compliment, or...?

Some people like mind-numbing grinding. It puts them into a zen-like trance of perpetual progress which the total lack of risk cannot disturb.

So for those people, and I know a few of them, I guess it's a compliment.

I can't say I disagree. Actually I agree 100%, but I hope you hold the same opinion about Diablo?

I hated Diablo 1.

Diablo II was pretty grindy, but the action could also get pretty intense. After you get several hours in, a little risk starts creeping in if you don't adequately manage your health, mana, position, and skills. The bosses and the occasional elite monster could be pretty tough.

I enjoyed D2, but I can't go back to it nowadays.  Playing it now feels like playing WoW in a boring world without much social interaction and using 2 spells instead of 4.
