"It made Cocoon fear Pulse" But it didn't. Dysley wanted Cocoon to fear Pulse through any means, and he used that war and other factors to do so. If there was no war, he could have done it just as easily. |
That's just your hypothesis, which boils down to what I said previously. Every story can be twisted and shaped to fit anyone's agenda. So you easily do this for FFXIII as you can do it for any game.
Probably he would have, but then again, that would change the entire plot of the game, as there wouldn't be any reason for this particular plot to happen. Barthandelus could easily do that 500 years ago, 100 years ago, whenever. So the plot would never be the same.
But no, the main spark for the plot was the resurrection of the two pulse L'Cie which had tried to destroy Cocoon before, which lead to the series of events of the thirteen days, which in turn led to the events of the plot of the game.
So that is essential to the plot, to why everything unfolds as it does, to why even Jihl and Yaag had any relevance to the plot.
