Actually I hate both players and think they should drop dead. However that is not an opinion, Pele is, in fact, better than Ronaldo, and people who think otherwise and try to push off that opinion to be jsut as valid as reality are just plain idiots. Just because someone likes Ronaldo more than Pele does not change the fact Pele wipes the floor with Ronaldo.

Arguments like who and what is better are always a fight between opinions. That's a fact.

That is where you are arong. There are clearcut statistics and properties in everything, independent of personal preferece, which are used to determine the quality of a person or object. Pele has better stats than Ronaldo, and he is therefore better. This also applies to entertainment, The Godfather is a better movie than Avatar no matter the amount of people who like Avatar more than The Godfather.

Now you can like Ronaldo more, and that's fine, but you cannot say he is better than Pele unless you are an idiot who doesn't know shit about soccer. The same applies to The Godfather and Avatar.

Pele is better than Ronaldo. That's my opinion and rather most of us. But everything you mentioned, are opinions. The stats, are built up from opinions of others as to how to classify their skills. Avatar and The Godfather are also opinions. One may say Godfather is the better than Avatar because of the storytelling, but others may say Avatar was better than Godfather because it was more action packed.

They are all opinions, because we all differ in one way or another.

So you are saying something like the number of goals is an opinion of skill? Or that storytelling is only an opinion on the quality of a movie? Maybe you should look at the definitions of soccer and movies, because those are not opinions, but facts given the definitions of soccer and movies. They are only opinions if you change the definitions, but in that case we are no longer talking about soccer or movies but something made up. In reality though, both goals and storytelling are measureable properties of soccer and movies and as such it enables us to qualify players and movies as better or worse. The same applies to everything, authors, books, music, musicians, etc. etc. Unless you change the definitions, opnions can be easily wrong.
