I only became a really big gamer in this generation because the gaming worlds on the 360 and PS3 are realistic and draw you in more than some crappy looking game from other consoles. Wait he's clearly not saying that. For example Super Mario Galaxy would only be a better game with the power of PS3/360 for visuals. The same gameplay but even better visuals. Meaning it can only be better. 

His arguement is a standing one. 

It's an opinion. You cant change a persons opinion.

So your right in thinking he's sad because of that statement? When the only thing thats different is his opinion is different than yours.
