Desktop <$200 - AMD
Desktop $200 - $300 - AMD for more multithreaded performance, Intel for more single-thread performance
Desktop >$300 - Intel
Server 1P-4P - AMD (Magny-Cours)
Server 8P - Intel (Nehalem-EX)
Supercomputers - AMD
All Laptops - Intel
Subjectively:
AMD, since I'd like to see a more competitive CPU market and AMD is fighting from an unfair position brought about by Intel's antitrust actions meaning it didn't have enough R&D money to recover from Barcelona, whereas Intel could afford to market its way out of Pentium 4 being a disaster.
Llano (Fusion) and Zambezi (Bulldozer) should be a return to competition; Intel can't match the Radeon graphics.
