since you have a wii you must be aware of the TERRIFYING arc rise fantasia english dub, just because you havent played a game with a lousy dub doesnt mean that some dubs are just terrible work that can be easily outshined (or even tramped upon) by any lousy fandub.
i'll get a lot of cr*p for this but i hated the dub for ffx, it was terribly annoying. granted it was the first ff to have voice overs we can cut some slack but it's still terrible apart from a couple of voices.
in this generation of gaming that kind of LOUSY and poor localisation work is just sad, it's not like we just started having the japanese games localised.
not looking for a fight just saying my opinion. it cant be changed and i dont need to show you sources, everyone here has seen videos of lousy voice overs.

I know they are really bad dub but also good one ,
resident evil umbrella & darkside chronicle, RE 5, Silent Hill , soul calibur , tekken , metal gear, some dynasty or samurai warrior voice, final fantasy etc. Generaly when a jrpg game is in anime style the english voice seem to suck (I don't really play jrpg game) IMO

jrpgs are usually the genre that suffers the most, probably due to really long text.
Hynad and i were debating that it might also be related to short deadlines.

I think one of the main reason is money, all the big game or franchise got good english voice (generaly) because the compagnie (SE-Capcom-Konami) got big wallet. But I heard that star ocean was not really good so it's a little confusing

maybe, budget could affect casting like you say. i doubt they took the same amount of care casting for star ocean as they did for ffxiii.
