The PSP, while not an outright failure, has not done well. As a gaming device its mediocre.

It tried to be too many things. A multimedia device. Play games, movies, music, etc. The problem is its design does not fit well for such things, though the PSP Go is closer to a good media device design, but doesn't fit well with the times that now expect touch screens. I shouldn't even have to mention how bad UMD movies went.

If they want to succeed in their second foray into mobile gaming/media they need a radical departure from the original PSP. Touch screen, possibly still sliding controls though, no physical media except memory card. Allow small time developers to make games and apps for it at zero cost. Charge them % of revenue from PSN store IF they are selling their game for more than free. Essentially make a better iPod Touch with games from SONY.
