Because they want to retake 2nd, and even 1st if possible.

the point is Sony has already sold over 33+ million system's world wide on the PS3 and many still consider that a flop. so why worry about it since right now their making a profit on each PS3 sold and even though their in 3rd they are still getting the majority of the 3rd party support!

at this point it's not about the short race it's alway's been about the long haul. so why worry about the short part of the race?
