My Sony SATA DVD writer started having both disc detection and writing problems, so after buying an LG external USB DVD writer, as emergency solution and that I'll keep as an emergency spare just in case, I started looking for an internal SATA replacement. Combo BD reader - DVD writer were still at around 100€, and I'm not interested in just reading BD and watching them on a 19" monitor, BD writer was still at around 200€, so I bought a simple DVD writer again. Samsung this time, there weren't good offers on Sony's and I'm quite disappointed of how short was its life compared to my first Sony and the LG external is noisy as an helicopter, just like my first LG internal CD-R, so I avoided risking to get another of them.

I guess in USA and Japan BD drives are already a lot more affordable, but BD will have to become more affordable in the rest of the world to take off.

And at the current prices, the replacement for my last ever VHS recorder, that recently broke, will be a DVD+HDD recorder, not a BD. Also because the old SD TV still works and BD would be wasted on it.
