 So switch off between missions.  There's no rule that says you always have to use one.

It was a case of it switching mid-mission. I was having a hard time getting at his tail with the Lance, and just a hard time keeping up with him on liand with it. Whereas underwater i was having an abysmal time defending against him with swordn'shield. Same mission.
