It's still the same price, It just means Sony are now making profit on every ps3 sold, which is very good news, as they can start making back on that big loss they posted

Sony was already making profit in the 1st Quarter JAN-MAR as Sony said

this increase it

Even better maybe this time next year we shall see the rewards with a small price cut early 2011 or maybe even christmas 2010 depending on how many well gt5 and other great titles sell

This is wrong.  They were not making a profit until this new unit.  This new unit is the first time they have broken even or made any profit (depending on region).

SONY themselsves said they were making profits from the PS3 SLIM launched in SPETEMBER 2009 in JAN-MAR quarter and would further make profits when 40nm is introduced in MAY 2010

yup. even before this new playstation 3 with the smaller gpu inside shipped.

No they were not making profit on PS3 hardware at all until this new unit.  Your info, Solid_Snake, is wrong.

yes they did. unless your saying places like businessweek are wrong:

Friday May 21, 2010

"Things began to change in the second half of last year when Sony launched a redesigned PlayStation 3. Advances in electronics and manufacturing meant the console was cheaper to produce and Sony managed to boost sales by reducing the price.

The move paid off. In the final three months of 2009 sales of the console hit 6.5 million, up 2 million units for the same period of 2008. The strong performance continued into 2010 with sales in the first three months of the year of 2.2 million, up 600,000 units on the year.

"During the three month period Sony started making money on each console sold."

They are referring to the new unit which Sony announced to be able to make a profit during this time but wasn't much available until the last few weeks.

does it matter what they were talking about?

unless you think they are talking about the retail space buying the new production model's would not count on sony making money per each sold unit?.

any case it's still sold!

thus anyway you slice it the PS3 was making a profit per/system sold for 3 straight month's.

No, actually business week is wrong as well.  Not really wrong, per say, mostly just a misunderstanding exactly how you and Solid are misunderstanding.

Sony informed everyone that the reason they had shortages was because they had been working on a new revision to the RSX.  They said this revision would be able to cause profit.  However, this revision did not hit shelves until the last few weeks, outside of the first quarter.

So really what business week did was infer that Sony had gotten those new units out already when in fact they hadn't.  Either that or the supply was so low it went unnoticed among the other models.

Regardless, none of this matters because you and I are in agreement that it was the NEW MODEL with new RSX that was/is making a profit. I was simply arguing against Solid_Snake who claimed that the PS3 model from 2009 had been profitable at some point which it wasn't.
