I dont think publishers are doing this to profit from used game sales but instead to destroy them. Retailer gets their share of the sale at the time of purchase which is a way it's intended to be. Now a used game sale is a negative externality because the publisher gets little to nothing from it, so its best to stop the used market and this is one method. Its what the competitive industry is about, taking out competitors. Business perspective.
