The gaming industry can't combat used game sales. It's impossible. Video games are not like Music, they are a disposable medium. New games are constantly coming up and gamers want to move on to new games. To make way for the new games, they sell their old games to fund the purchase of new games. In the PC gaming industry, where the resale culture is almost nonexistant, "honest" PC gamers have mostly embraced Steam (sadly). The majority of PC gamers on the other hand have said "screw this" and decided to pirate PC games to all hell. The PC gaming industry is a mess. Console gamers would not embrace a world without game resale and rentals. Console gamers rely heavily on selling used games to fund new game purchases and on rentals to avoid paying $60 for 10-12 hour singleplayer games. Without the ability to sell games, gamers are going to have less money to buy new games. These anti-used game sales crusaders are shooting themselves in the foot.
