Independence in business is a good thing. The more SONY can provide outside of 3rd parties, the more they can bolster the appeal of their hardware. It's like a city on a hill that cannot be missed/ignored. This also attracts 3rd party developers to approach on their own rather than to be convinced of other reasons.
Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.
