When you consider that the story had multiple outcomes, each being Unique and some, were well, f'd up and depressing.(1) Nonetheless you have to give credit to the writers for keeping you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole game.(2) |
1. That isn't anything new, to stories or gaming.
2. Again, did you read the OP? I addressed that in the second paragraph.

There are subjective opinions, but when enough gather, the fact that a lot of people have those opinions is an objective fact. So those turn into quality standards. When it comes to the middle, there is some disagreement (such as the notion of a "critic proof" film), but at both ends of the bell curve, the standards are clear." I dont wholy agree with this, though there is an objective way to determine if something is well written or not. Also, I dont remember people saying this is Oscar worthy(not that it means much)(3) and I would like to get examples of how badly written the game is.(4) |
3. It's not really a specific instace. I've seen it smattered over reviews and comments and posts on various sites. I can't really point to that many specific instances since many were on some thread I forgot the title of, but there was an article here about narrative in games where a guy claimed the writting was "better than any show or movie" (I hope I got the quote right). Again, I just can't remember the title of the article.
4. I didn't claim it was badly written, just not well written. The writing is basically flat and average. Nothing is particularly bad, nor particularly good. And characterization has some problems, in the sense that a lot of scenes happen just for something to happen, even if they don't make sense (like the shouting match in the police briefing about the killer).

Than, why not just say "written really well"? |
Because a) the term really doesn't relate to the Oscars as much as supposed quality of a work, and b) I didn't have the space in the thread title.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs
