Muslims and Jews got along (much better than Christians and Jews anyway) up until the 1950's with the creation of Israel.  To garner support against the Germans in WWI, the British promised both the Jews and the Palestinians land in Ottoman (Germany's ally) territory if they won the war, but kept the land for themself afterwards up until they had to give it up after WWII by splitting it between them.

That being said, people should realize that religion can lead people to do very illogical things, Islamic Fundamentalism included.
