I agree, with what your saying. because, ofcourse they wanted it to sell as much as 7 (if I'm not mistaken Square-Enix's) best selling game. You don't hope for it to sell less. And when you create something... just being an artist myself... sometimes you think you created something great, and then a lot of people don't like it etc.. so you get excited. However, I don't know what wada does besides running the company or how much influence he has on the actual game. But Kitase and the FF team, were probably proud of their work so, you get a little hyped up, about what you did, granted... I love FFXIII to death, but I understand why many don't. @ Kenryoku, SE wanted FF to outsell 7 since 7 that's a logical thing to want. But that is not SE as a company expectation. They're not expecting it to outperform what they expect, because their marketing people get paid to project sales, as with any company, and a responsible company which I'd assume SE is as they have made money for atleast the past 3 years. You don't base company prosperity on unrealistic goals. Because It's irresponsible to be like a baseball player thinking I'm going to hit a home run off this pitch, or I fail. That would be the equivalent to SE expecting it to outsell FF7. Hell for 2 examples from nintendo that would fit your staggering decline definition are 3D mario, and Zelda

I see your posts. You don't have to keep responding each time. I just don't want to keep arguing about it because my position isn't going to change.
And really now, comparing 3D Mario to Final Fantasy isn't at all the same. The reason the sales for the 3D Mario and Zelda games have fallen off is because of many different factors besides that of Final Fantasy such as Japan preferring 2D Mario/Zeldas, less advertising and etc. When Mario 64 came out, it was the major release property and advertised game for the N64. Not so for the subsequent Mario games. Nintendo didn't spend nearly 4 years and multiple millions of dollars advertising Mario Galaxy like Square did Final Fantasy XIII. And might I add, Mario Galaxy is seeing an upswing in Japanese interest in 3D Mario games while Final Fantasy XIII is seeing a downswing.
