If they only think about ptofit and selling PS3 at $400+ and did not invest in new IP (like what Nintendo did to Gamecube) they will be profitable but Sony will be permanently lose all their fans and effect in long term. If Sony keep PS3 price until mid next year i'm sure they will gain some profit. PS3 game also had higher attach rate lately thanks to blu ray for being unhackable. Also i dont see we need next gen console as HD games is still too expensive for game developer. The earliest i think is around 2015 . Graphic still can be improved and most PS3 games released not even use half of Blu Ray capacity. x360 always use multiple disc. PS Move and Natal still not released. 3D also supported by PS3 and X360. There is no reason for Sony or Microsoft to introduce next gen console this time. None of game developer will like it as it will boost production cost and might destroy the whole industry. Nintendo on other hand might upgrade Wii into Wii HD just to compete with PS3/X360. |
you just don't understand how the gaming industry works.You have to make new consoles every 5-6 years to keep the momentum,to introduce new things and to sell more consoles.
Why do you think Sony launched PS3 when PS2 was already selling and PS2 when PS1 was already selling?- So that people don't get bored of the thing and for the future of the business
PS3 current momentum will last just another 1-2 years then people will want new things.And if you think its all about profit it isn't.Sony lost so much but they know blu-ray sales and PS4 will bring the cash back.

"earliest is around 2015 for new consoles" - have you gone bonkers,if they wait till 2015 then Wii 2 and XBOX NEXT will launch and grab the whole market share and PS brand will diminish.It is very hard to launch a new console when other consoles have launched 2-3 years ago.
most PS3 games fill start to fiLL Blu-ray by around 2011-2012.
PS MOVE and NATAL matter very less to when a new gen will be launch,they are just gimmicks to show that their systems can also do what WII can.
The 3D support provided by PS3 is just a little scratch and 360 can't do full HD 3D.
and if Nintendo upgraded from WII to WIIHD and SOny and MS don't then WII would have already won the next gen by continuing the momentum of WII and have no competion in the new gen by MS and Sony.
