FF10 also didn't get to 10 million because its not as big of a series as Square thinks it is. And none of the following games have. They do this every gen. They try and make a bigger and better Final Fantasy and think it'll sell just because they made it prittier and threw more money and hype behind it. And I agree. In the next gen, they'll probably try to do the exact same thing. Make an even MORE expensive game to try to build up the hype again from what they lost with FFXIII...and instead, it'll only sell 3/4 the amount of FFXIII. Because instead of focusing on what's important, they'll just completely change everything again. |
On that last point, i dont think sqaure will ever let this type of thing happen again. i'm not saying FF13 is a bad game, but i am saying that i dont think they'll make a game like that again. it wasnt recieved as well by western reviewers as they had hoped. and it has 3 stars out of 5 on amazon japan, and thats out of 2000 japanese fans, which is their home market. so i'm hoping they realise what they have to focus for the next one. also hopefully it will be helmed by a different team, not Kitase, Toriyama, Normora etc, so it wont neccessarily be another expensive cutscene fest.
the reason i think that FF15 could hit the 8-10 million mark, is because of assassins creed 1&2, i know they're not RPGs, but they have similar elements, like character driven narrative, and a strong single player story driven game. and thats why i think theres a market out there for this type of game.
