Could it be because Sony and Microsoft maybe use sold in a different way? Maybe Microsoft uses sold as shipped, but Sony uses sold with units in a purchase order from one of their clients. In networking products, you can buy what it's at the warehouse, or you can order it to fabric, usually if the number of units is above normal, or if it's a periodic purchase of a big enough number of units to compensate. If you order it, there is a ~4 weeks period of manufacturing, and another ~4 weeks by ship. Maybe not that 8 weeks apply to consoles as well, but 3-4 weeks, and the consoles ordered but not shipped can explain the difference between Sony sold numbers, and all the tracking agencies/websites, including VGChartz.
