| supercat said: I'm not so disbeleiving towards the idea of a WiiHD, I mean the Wii is getting manhandled by piracy, and it wouldnt be hard at all for nintendo to come up with a console in the $250 dollar range that also had a Blu-ray player. The blu-ray disc, btw, has security features that make it a lot harder to rip games with.
Hopefully, the HD bandwagon will cut down on piracy. |
So does the disc format which Nintendo has been using since the Gamecube. Only a very rare PC DVD-ROM unit can read them, and it takes hours to rip a raw image. How does cracking the disc format enable piracy of download-only titles? It doesn't, otherwise the Wii would be wide open before launch due to things learned from the Gamecube.
The reason it's all possible is because BroadOn's DRM is a pile of shit. These folks managed to extract all the encryption keys by bridging two pins on a chip with a pair of tweezers. In early Wii consoles, one of the authentication checks didn't even work properly.
