I'm still not convinced that Natal is going be as big a deal as some people think.

It's still a mid-generation add-on, the likes of which have never played a significant role.

Never before has a mid-generation add-on been treated as a whole new console launch. Obviously it will be available seperately as a add-on but it will be packaged with every 360 and most likely a redesigned 360 at that. Natal will be big.

Calling it a "new console launch" doesn't mean a damn thing. It's still the Xbox 360, it's been out for 4.5 years, and the public's perception of it is already set.

A controller add-on isn't going to change this.

Ok. I understand both points here. But Lord N Ntal certainly isnt like a simple add on like we have had in the past. Even PS Eye Toy. Why?

No device ever released as an add on to an existing console has come with every console sold from then on. In other words you will not be able to buy a brand new 360 without getting Natal. It is essentially a guaranteed way to make sure Natal gets into peoples homes. That is why M$ are refferring to this as a new console launch. They are rebranding Xbox, making a slim ( so the rumours say ) and making Natal a compulsory part of Xbox 360. Now existing users can also get it standalone.

This also guarantees to developers there will be a huge audience who have Natal. Unlike Move where it doesnt come with every PS3.

M$ are pushing this alot. And it will not sell as an add on, because essentially as of October Natal is Xbox 360. Not you can buy Natal for your 360 if you want it.
