Crysis innovated with open world FPS gameplay (at least in the beginning) and the speed, power, and stealth powers and how they were implemented. I think Galaxy is getting too much credit for innovating. Gravity tricks, although perhaps not done as well, were done in an old Ratchet game and old mario games (including super paper mario before it which has the most innovative feature between the 2). Galaxy also borrowed sonic's air bubbles. I thought that was cute. Gravity was implemented well and the game was a very good platformer, but it's not as innovative as people are giving it credit for, imo. That said, Halo 3 isn't that innovative either. It's mainly the fact that they have all the features in there: replays, 4-player co-op, map edits (not creators, though). Those features aren't new but they are well implemented. Skate has a nice replay system as well. Anyway, Galaxy got game of the year so what are you guys complaining about? I think games that have both great single and multiplayer should be way ahead of Galaxy for game of the year. CoD4, Orange Box, Halo 3, and Rock Band would be up there for me. I might add UT3 to that list after I play it. |

Crysis did nothing innovative. Absolutely nothing that hasn't been seen before. Open world FPS has been done (never heard of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?) and as for speed/power/stealth powers, well, all three were present in UT2K4, to mention one of many.
I can't imagine how Halo 3 and Crysis even got nominated for this award let alone won it. It kind of makes me think that the rest of the awards were just handed out by different fanboys.
