A new thread to talk about Star Wars : The Old Republic. Just a few months to wait and then we'll travel through the galaxy !

Here is a Preview Star Wars : The Old Republic , I hope you can translate it :)

Electronic Arts hopes to have 2 millions suscribers (1 million is enough for the development's cost) and BioWare said that the game will follow in the wake of KOTOR ( I hope they won't disappoint myself, KOTOR is definitively the best Star Wars game ever)

So, is there a lot of players who are interesting with The Old Republic MMORPG ?

They've announced a release date for the game?  I haven't even seen them announce Beta yet.

And I'm very interested in the game.  Heck, its in my signature.  But frankly, its because the game seems to be breaking a number of the constraints the majority of MMOs have been focused on in the past.  Namely, making players 'group up' to defeat bosses, limiting gameplay to specific tasks (grinding, fetch quests, instances, PvP) and only focusing the game on only one narrow aspect (community vs gameplay).

All of these things have been addressed over the course of developer videos and on their development site and it shows how they are focusing on trying to make an MMO completely different from other MMOs that more people can enjoy.  Even myself, who has been a staunch advocator against MMOs.  Certain things that peak my interest are their focus on changing how you develop your character, where your skills develop based on your actions and not ust a skill tree or a point based system.  And the ability to go through the game solo or in a small group of 2-3 people, and not having to form a 'clan' or run through an instance with 6-20 people.  Plus, they've also stated there will be customizable gear and more emphasis on NPC interaction.  All of these things pretty much are exactly what I've been looking for in an MMO....and every MMO in the past has been purposfeully been avoiding.

Hopefully the generic formula of Ragnarok Online/Everquest/World of Warcraft will be broken by this game and MMOs will evolve finally.
