Those people advocating PR should specify the system they're talking about though: Alternative Vote, Additional Member, Single Transferable Vote etc. Then it can be argued against effectively. Not specifying the system means we can't discuss its weaknesses as well as its percieved fairness.

Single Transferable Vote.

it's already used in local elections and regional assmebly elections in the UK and its used for parliamentary elections in Ireland.
