They're still putting themselves and their legitimate customers through hassle for no real payoff to anybody.

After 2 years probably no one is buying the game anymore and keeping the validation servers running forever is a bit costly and useless.

Alpha Protocol will still be bought years from now, just like any other PC game (especially since it's from a well-kown PC developer, and the game will probably be good). Either way, the faster they remove the validation, the better.
