They're still putting themselves and their legitimate customers through hassle for no real payoff to anybody.

After 2 years probably no one is buying the game anymore and keeping the validation servers running forever is a bit costly and useless.

My point is that their DRM is going to be just as effective at deterring piracy on launch day as it will be the day that they turn it off: Not at all.

It's nice that they're lowering the extra costs that legitimate customers have to pay in this system, but they're still going through a big song and dance that will accomplish nothing productive and cost Sega and their customers who knows how much money.
