I'm going to have to go with The World Ends With You.

I had pretty much given up hope of ever enjoying a JRPG again after a decade of disappointments, though I'll admit I didn't console game much, and I didn't delve deeply into the more obscure JRPGs (and SRPGs will always be a different matter ).

TWEWY was the breath of fresh air that made me believe in the genre again. The action was fun, the setting and story were unique (despite the use of a couple of cliches). It had honest-to-God character development and striking artwork. The gameplay was very customizable! You could manage the top screen or ignore it at your discretion, adjust the difficulty up and down and rewards would scale up and down, use the powers you like and forget the others.

"The worst part about these reviews is they are [subjective]--and their scores often depend on how drunk you got the media at a Street Fighter event."  — Mona Hamilton, Capcom Senior VP of Marketing
