Not quite. I knew there were modem-type devices for the NES and SNES, but a bit of digging revealed others, including the Genesis Sega Channel (which later was bought by AT&T, and led to their broadband access network), the Intellivision's PlayCable, or the Atari 2600's GameLine. All of these predate the Dreamcast, though none of them did online gaming. The winner for online gaming goes to the unlicensed TelePlay Modem from 1992. I do believe that Dreamcast was the first to have the modem built in to the system, though...

Like I said... I did not own it and I often heard that it was the first console to implement online gaming, sorry for the mistake. I knew there were System Links before (like Gameboy) so I thought that what was available for NES and SNES also was System Link like. As Ataris are way before my Generation (1993 I played Console games for the first time), I don't know much about them and sometimes I ignore them without wanting.
