Alan Wake is just like that by the sounds of it. Alone In The Dark was also immensly enjoyable for me. The gameplay was ok, but the atmosphere and story was pretty good. It's my fave horror/thriller game this gen, and scored low on reviews. Yet a game like Resi 5 which is the worst Resi IMO, scored much better. Ninja Blade is another game in a different genre again that scored low. Yet I enjoyed both it's gameplay and action much more than DMC4 for example. Sometimes it's really hard to see what Reviewers determine as a good game. It seems that TPS's this gen are the games which generally score very high regardless. GeoW, Uncharted even Dead Space and Mass Effect has elements of TPS which IMO added to the game being accepted more. FPS also are excepted in the West very well. Look at JRPG's this gen. JRPG lovers will tell you they love games like Lost Odyssey or FF13. But take Demons Soul. It reviewed really well. But is less of a JRPG than any other JRPG this gen. A very strange generation. There is games in my collection I would put far above GTA4 for example yet reviewers seem hooked on not accepting them. |
THANK YOU!
This is exactly what I said in a previous post responding to people saying the gameplay is so simple and could never live up to something like RE4.
Also in regards to your review comment, this is why we cannot just look at review scores: We have to read the damn reviews so we can avoid falling into the stupid-trap that is the Eurogamer review.
