It really depends on how you do it.
Our electronic machines are pretty nice in Ohio. They tabulate the votes from 2 sources - a custom-built infrared disc, and a 256MB flash drive. All the votes are compared against eachother to ensure fraud doesn't happen....A person cannot get into a machine (to tamper with the flash drives) without us knowing. Furthermore, the machines compare results against eachother, so if there was tampering, it would be easy to detect due to the fact that the tampering wouldn't show up on the other machines (unless you had a clandestine plot to have every machine tampered at the same time, and somehow over-rode the protocols).
I'm not saying their impervious, but my experiences with them for the last 2 elections were excellent. Once the precints closed, we had results for the entire precint tabulated in a matter of 20 minutes....Instead of 5 hours like what some of the UK constituencies.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
