For what purpose did the Xel'Naga create races? I mean, if you look at most science fiction, most created races are used for either slave labor, or as cannon fodder in wars... Yes the Xel'Naga created races, but I don't think we're ever told what their motives were. We do know that for whatever the reason, the protoss rose up and drove them off their homeworld.

And even though the protoss campaign is a ways away, did you ever watch the VERY first preview cinamatic for SC2? it was zeratul hacking his way through tons of zerg, and being confronted by kerigan. And there are missions related to this in the terran campaign. So don't worry about him being relegated down to just an "old wise man". (Though he won't be the star, but he never was)

Lore Ahead

Last time I went through the lore this question seemed to be answered. Given this involves some use of Wikis, but I trust hardcore internet nerds to filter their own nerdiness. Xel'Naga, as a race, are dying. This is apparently a cycle that happens every so often in the universe. In order to continue on their line they needed a species that had purity of essence, and one that had purity of form. The Zerg represent the former, and Protoss the latter. This means one very, very exciting turn of events though. We will see a Zerg/Protoss hybrid during the campaign at some point.
