I agree, but it would be definitely be moving adoptions in the right direction. Lesbians are little more difficult to have adoptions due to being biologicallly capable of reproducing using sperm banks. I don't like to think that I'm an Extremist, but I do believe in civilization in which all people have equal rights to do anything without violationg other people's rights. Gay marriage does not hurt anyone. |
Just as a side note, I’m not certain whether homosexual couples adopting would have any impact on orphanages.
I don’t have the exact statistics in front of me, but the waiting list for adopting a baby throughout most of the western world is several years long (4 or 5 years last I heard) and children that are too young to be in school are rarely orphans for longer than it takes to complete the paperwork on an adoption. Unfortunately, after the age of (about) 8 or 10 years old a child stands almost no chance of being adopted because people assume that these children are damaged; which is often the case. People are willing to go to the trouble of adopting children from foreign countries (where it is likely that the child has fetal alcohol syndrome and will be maladjusted and violent) than to adopt an older child.
I see no reason to believe that homosexual couples would not have this bias
